3 Organization Tips for Your Storage Buildings

Posted by on March 28, 2012

You’re searching for the right storage building for your property. You’ve considered your building’s future location, your climate, and your own personal aesthetic preferences.

Now it’s time to consider how much space you’ll need, and how to maximize the efficiency of your new shed or barn. The trick to efficient storage is to make the best use of all the available space.

Here are three great places to start.

  • Go through those boxes. This may seem obvious, but know what you’re storing and why you’re keeping it. You may find that you’re planning to store things you no longer need or want. Donating, selling, recycling, or tossing unnecessary items will free up potential space.
  • Your shed is more than just floor space. Consider using the walls, roof, rafters, and ceiling to hang sports and lawn and garden equipment.
  • Plan ahead for seasonal storage. Will your new shed or barn hold seasonal items? Create a space in your shed or barn that will remain accessible and rotate your items seasonally. For example, in the spring, you’ll need your lawn mower, so your snowblower and shovels can move to the back.

Now that you’ve got an organizational plan, you’ll be in a better position to choose the perfect storage building for your needs.
